My name is Gloria Steinem; I am a Journalist, Feminist, and Social and Political Activist. In 1968 I took a job at Felker’s New York Magazine. Then in 1972 I co-founded Ms Magazine, and I wrote for the magazine until it was sold in 1987. The magazine was sold again in 2001 to the Feminist Majority Foundation where I serve as an advisor and remain the chief as one of the six founding editors. I was able to cover the Presidential Campaign of George McGovern’s where I became politically active in the feminist movement and brought other distinguished feminist to the cause. In 1971 I co-founded the National Women’s Political Caucus and the Women’s Action Alliance. I was also a member of the Democratic Socialist’s of America. Then in 1974 I co-founded the Coalition of Labor Union Women and I participated in the National Conference of Women in Houston, Texas in 1977.In 1993 I was inducted into the National Women’s hall of fame. I co-founded Choice USA in 1992 which was a non-profit organization that provided support for giving the younger generation a choice of abortion. I feel I am best suited for this position because women are just as equal as men and could be a great asset to our government if given the chance also I think I could help other countries by starting organizations that will better their situations.
